Default S&S Super E Questions

Hello

I just bought a 99 Road King with a 95 kit.... It ran fine when I first bought it actually it ran really good

There's 2 vaccuum caps on top of the carb that ocassionally pop off. When they pop off I get decel popping and popping through the carb.

I put silicone on the caps this time and so far so good.. there still on.

Now I have a strong gas odor while riding and when I come home and park it in the garage the whole garage and basement has a gas odor

Am I to rich maybe the accelerator pump maybe even over jetted

Any help would be great

Thanks

More likely the float level is set too high (or the float needle isn't seating) and fuel is exiting via the overflow tube.

So it was running fine in the past and you haven't changed anything, but now smell gas? Can't be carb settings, so forget all about that! It would seem you have a leak, either from the gas tap, float chamber or accelerator pump.

The simplest way of checking the carb is to get a repair kit, strip and clean the carb, checking settings as you reassemble it. Removing it from the bike will also help isolate if the gas tap is a problem. Don't hesitate chucking it for a new replacement off Ebay, they only cost about 25 bucks, for a normal (not vacuum) one.

2 ports on top of the carb,my S&S has one,but if your bike had a vacuum petcock one of the would go to it. if it's been changed out it needs to be plugged up. the other port is for the voes . are you turning the petcock off? either that or high float level.

I too am having trouble with my overflow tube. I just got the bike out of the shop for a tube-up and had a great ride home this past Sat, but, I am now finding the I am leaking a massive amount of gas from my overflow tube. What's causing this???

stuck float, or needle/seat not sealing. may just be dirt. easy to drop the fuel bowl and check out. just make sure you have the fuel shut off.
