I guess I really have been living on the edge then! What are rest stop/pull offs for? I thought thats where you take a leak and chug a few cold ones. Oh well, I might be a little more careful next time.

You can relieve yourself just not in the parking lot in full view of the trace like I did.

LeavingSatto Jackson MS from Dallas Txand picking up NTP. Heading North towards Tupelo the next day and up to TN. Get off the NTP the 3rd day and head East to the Smokie Mts. 4th day- jump into Ga and NC around the Dragons tail. 5th day- start high-tailing it back home. If you have ridden this trail beforeor know any good places to stop, hollar at me.
I've ridden the Trace many times. The section below Jackson isn't as scenic as the stretch from Jackson to Tupelo, so go 50 mph and enjoy the view. The south region looks, as was described earlier, all the same and IMO gets boring after a while.

Also, if you have time, follow the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as you can. It starts west of Maggie Valley, NC and goes about 400 miles into VA. It's much like the Trace, with a slow speed limit (45mph IIRC), but the scenery is breathtaking. If you go far enough and run into the Skyline Drive in VA, turn around. It's not that great, costs $5/bike, and has a 35mph limit. A hundred miles of 35mph is slow torture.

Excellent. I'm joining up with my buddy in Clinton just outside Jackson and going North up the Trace. We are going to ride to Robbinsville NC in one day. At 50 mph I'm estimating about 4hrs until we hit AL state line?

Don't miss the Cherahala Skyway going to Robbinsville. Start at Tellico Plains, TN and the Skyway ends at Robbinsville, NC. Also consider Hwy. 64 going across southern TN, which is probably the most scenic option going to NC. Stay on the Trace past Tupelo, then continue NE to catch 64.

Sounds about right. Usually estimate about three hours to Jackson from here in Tupelo and Around an hour to Hwy 72 just over the AL line.
