Default Pipes for street glide

I'm sure this has been visited numerous times but would like some pipes that sounded more traditional but not deafening. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Its an extremely difficult question to answer, I'd say listen at bike nites and ask a lot of questions.

Generally true duals and any number of decent mufflers will sound good - Rineharts are pretty typical and are known to sound good, as are Vance & Hines, Freedom Performance, RCX yada yada.

But getting true duals will make a big difference given the same slip-ons.

go to a bike night and see what you like- we all have our own idea of what is "good". That is the best advice I can give you.

Or at least lay back and read some of the many, many threads on this---some of the riders here are on their 3rd or 4th set of pipes...$$$

for about 15 reasons a modern Harley will not sound like a Panhead ( which used a 2 into 1 stock)...but that's ok, they make almost twice the power per cube.

as of last count there are 68,328 posts on these forums using the phrase " nice deep rumble, not too loud, but really barks when I get on it"

If you want just slip on mufflers, then you may want to consider Pig Pipes. Pretty good quality and sound; and not expensive. However, if you have the time, do what MKGuitar suggests and get around to different events and do a lot asking and listening. It'll be worth your time.

I went with V&H Monster ovals they have an awesome low growl and are no where near obnoxiously loud so I can cruise out of the neighborhood in the wee hours without pi$$ing anyone off lol and they look killer from the back of the bike almost the same width as the bottom of the bags good luck with the hunt the options are endless!

I was looking for the same thing as you. After reading about 100 posts about pipes i decided to remove the packing from my stock pipes. They sound great, not to loud, sound great when you jump on the throttle and looks stock. About a half hour and it was FREE.

DeCat the header pipe and the stock mufflers get louder, if that dosen't do it for you
then go to slippon mufflers for more sound.

Baffles or catalytic converter? Any change in performance? Thanks.

So agree with the above.. First remove the Cat. This makes the biggest difference with several things such as sound, performance and a big one is heat. But keep in mind this requires a tuner of sort. I do know that even with installing just a header and A/C with tuner, the bike can be a bit sluggish compared to after installing a set of slip on's and what it is capable of.
I used the Jackpot 2-1-2 ceramic header, Stage 1 A/C and currently running 3.5 jackpot slip on's with a Power Vision tuner. The bike truly has incredible power over stock and sounds great. Fuel Moto supplied components and Jamie did the maps for the PV. Great folks to work with. My '11 had the same set up minus the slip on's using one, right side stock muffler, baffle removed which was set up by dealership and dyno that way. It had a great sound and every one commented on it being the perfect touring sound.
I am currently looking into doing the same to this bike or sending the stock mufflers to American Custom. Check out their web site. I have a friend who did this and they have an awesome deep but not roaring loud sound. http://www.americancustom.com/produc...p-on-mufflers/
