A 2 up luggage rack = 4 point docking unit.

Thanks, I may need that in the future, so I guess I will stick with the 4 point.

Can I put the chrome covers on with the backrest and luggage rack in place or can they only be used with the accessories off? Thanks

Edit: Never mind, I looked it up and they can only be used when the accessories are off.

You use the caps once you remove the accessories. You will be glad you went with the 4 point. I went thru the same thought process too. Never thought I would add a rack, just thought I would use the backrest. That lasted about a month when I then added a rack. I'll agree that I'd rather not see the docking system once everything is off, but you have to compromise.

I got a 4-point and rack with my '09. I've never mounted either (anybody want them?). Got a cheap lockable Chinese tourpac I bolt on for trips. Thieves can detach your detachables quicker than you can... If ya want a backrest I'd get a seat with front and rear detachable/slide-in backrest mounts and a backrest ya can switch from front to back (can also be locked in bag).

I got the 4 point....have the detachable backrest and luggage rack...for me..I am glad I got the 4 pt..much much more flexibility....and I know people can detach it and take it home with them...but..that is why I have insurance

PS..doesn't harley make a locking system for the detachables??

I have the four point on my SG. I can pop on my tour pak for trips with the ball and chain or just have a backrest and cargo for my T-bag for around town. If I'm just hotrodding around with no need for stuff I can strip it down to naked. It's nice to have options.

I have locking latches on the quick release to keep the honest, honest. I don't think I really need the locks though. If someone wants it that bad, well...you know...

Another option with the 4 point mount is to get an inexpensive ($100) internet tour pack with integrated back rest.

This way you can run clean when you are by yourself, or put on the tour pack when taking the passenger along or on longer trips when you want some dry storage.

Mine spends most of it's time hanging on the wall, but when G/F wants to come along, she needs the extra space to bring along her shi…i mean stuff.

Handy as can be, and she likes it much better than just the backrest.
