Default fuel tank removal question

2012 rkc

Is it required to depressurize the fuel system prior to tank removal? Manual says to remove fuel pump fuse and run the fuel out to depressurize. The tank is going to be off for an extended time and I didn't want to remove the fuel from the lines, etc. Less chance of seals drying out if fuel still in system.. Right?

negative.

the quick disconnect when unplugged seals itself. you might 2 or 3 drops of fuel from the process but that's it.

either start the bike, pull the fuse and then proceed...or if the bike has not run in a day or 2 there will be little or no pressure.

ventilated area, catch rag

I prefer not to pull the fuse on a running motor...as it stumbles to a stop the sensors will give out of normal input to the ecm, possibly resulting in codes.

No need to. the quick disconnect will hold pressure for a short time but then it would be no different if the tank was still in place. Pressure will bleed off in any case. That is why you wait for the fuel pump to pressurize the system before starting.

Quick disconnect - fuel gauge wiring - console - 4 bolts your done. :-)

Default Clarification

So disconnect the quick disconnect from the tank, and the tank fuel won't drain out?? I thought the QD would not leak but the tank flows freely until empty. Am I uninformed?

It seals off the hose and the tank. You will get about three drops of fuel on your hand. I like to remove the tank when its low on fuel but that is only because of the weight.

closer to 6 for a US Gallon. Water about 8 lbs.
( depending on altitude/ temperature...which is why aircraft fuel is measured in pounds)
