Chrome Switch Housing Install 70222-96B
After reading all of the posts on this forum over the last few months, I wasalmost scared off from even attempting to install my chrome switchhousings. I tried it though and I'm glad I did. Itwasn't that bad at all. In less than two hours, I was done and ready for a test drive.
Lessons Learned and Tips:
1) Take your time and snap a few picturesalong the way to remember how the wires were routed. This is key sincethere isn't much space in the housings. You must reroute the wires justlike they were originally. My pictures were bad quality; otherwiseI would post them here.
2) The right side is a little more difficult. The brake switch isa little tricky, but doable as long as you finesse it. Just don't lose the metal wedge that keeps the switch in place. It issmall and easy to drop.
3) It is easy to forget to replace the two zip ties back on thebrackets. Save yourself some trouble and remember to do this whenyou take the bracket out. Otherwise you'll find yourself takingthing apart again.
4) Unlike most HD part installs; this is more of a finesse job and not a jobfor pulling out the rubber mallet. Don't try to force anything and make sure youdon't put the clutch and brake sensors in a bind. I've been told they areeasy to damage. If you follow the HD install instructions that comes with the switches, you should be able to avoid sensor damage.
5) Here is a link to a YouTube video that shows the left side being done. Thishelped me get a feel for what to look for when I did the first side. I recommend watching this before you start. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...NVemhROOXsjZwQ
I hope this encourages others to try it themselves. No need to give HD more$$$ than you have to. If anybody else has tips, pleasepost them here for others to use. Good luck.
