Wow, that's crazy! I only paid a one time $50 fee to pick out anything I could come up with that wasn't already taken. My previous bikes were 02FAT (2002 Fat Boy) and BMW K (BMW K75). My wife thinks I'M nuts.
Yeah but the fact that we have strictly numeric plates with no letters is what makes them prestigious to DE residents. Low plate numbers are passed down from generation to generation. When you trade a vehicle in DE the plate goes with it unless you decide to retain it. Five digit vehicle plates and four digit MC plates can still be had sometimes through DMV but you have to know someone. Less digit plates you will never get without buying one, inheriting one or entering the occasional raffles run by DMV and different agencies in the state. You can also get replicas of original issue porcelain plates that were run 1942-1946 and stainless steel plates that ran from 1947-1950. These were black plates with white numbers and were only issued for numbers 86999 back and for bikes 9999 back. Regular issue plates now are blue and gold.
Yes it is crazy but plates are a hot commodity here. A buddy of mine had two active 3 digit MC plates. He sold one of them for $5000.
