This could have ended a lot differently ... I had a good friend who had a flat with his wife on the back and he blew out a rear tire on I-75 in mid state Michigan and went down hard. Fortunately it was mostly cuts, bruises and road rash. The bike didn't fare so well. Glad to hear you and your better half are ok!

HD ships the FLHTP with run flats

Unfortunately they are not "rated" for 2 up riding, there are stickers on the rear fender warning against 2 up use, if you buy a "P" bike from the dealer and it has a 2 up seat and passenger pegs, the dealer is supposed to change the tires.

I had passengers on mine while it had the cop tires still on it no problemo, but the MoCo says No Go

Glad you and the wife are ok... Very scary scenario. We all have to be prepared for these type of situations and hope for the best.

I "think" the $50 deductible has always applied to tire and wheel. I've paid it twice on my 2011. A great benefit of those ultra stiff sidewalls is you are usually able
to ride it out, just don't go messing with brakes.

Glad both of you are ok.

Sorry to hear some of you have paid $50 for a new tire under the W and T coverage for some time. There may be a $50 charge starting last month, but I just had another flat about six weeks ago and again, no $50 charge. Never had a $50 charge under the wheel and tire over the last four years. I wonder if some service writers are putting the fix in their computer under the extended warranty that does have a $50 copay.

My apologies to the writer of the OP. this thread is about his experience, not wheel and tire coverage. I'm glad you got through it without harm. Many haven't.
But since I already posted this, I'll leave it in since it might be of interest to some.

Why all the blowouts? Are you hitting something or just running the tire too long?

Mate, apart from the obvious (blown tire, which no one can control) this is a good story, glad u had the coverage and most of all you and your highly intelligent wife are ok ( and drinking!!)
Ride safe Buddy - get home in one piece mate!

I went to Big Bear today. (Long Beach to Big bear and back). Went up the back and down the front. The big "Loop".

I saw a CHP traffic break, and later...also saw a flatbed lifting up a Hog.

One of those events must have been you. Wow, small world.

Glad it worked out safely. That is a scary situation.
