Very little venting when I fill it half way up the stick. I'm sure the top end rebuild will do it, and give you a new top end to boot! I hope the bikes not down to long. At least you have a back-up bike.
I know right. I never paid for any of the oil so I had that going for me. Dropping it off on the 27th SHOULD have it back on the 30th. At least I hope so. My wife won't ride on the little bike and we have plans for 31st.

Hmm guess I should check my oil a little more often if 1qt per 1000 miles is normal I would be negative 2 quarts at 5K service intervals.

TBH I have prepaid dealer service and haven't touched the dipstick since I did a change at 50 miles after my break in process. They haven't marked anything as low when they service it so I guess I am okay but then again they missed the rear brake pad wear and never took it for a test ride at the 10K service.

It's actually 1 qt in 1500. The old service manager kept telling me 1qt in 1000 so I made them show me in writing....let's just say he was wrong.

Interesting post. Years ago(HA) I purchased a new 1979 Ford Mustang V6 (motor was made in Germany) for the wife. Seemed to always need a quart of oil (about a qt ever 1K). Never smoked or anything but had a cat, so it caught it. At around 15K, it surged a 100rpm at 60 in cruse and had a terrible idle. With good compression, I assumed it must be in the head since 3 plugs where clean and 3 where oily. Local Ford dealer told me that was the way they where due to emission and there was nothing he could do. I pulled the valve covers and using my compressor to hold the valves shut, popped the valve stem retainers to replace the valve guide seals. They where none on 3 cylinders on the left side.

07 Ultra Classic that I change oil about once a year (over 5000 miles) and add no oil between changes. Most fuel injected engine uses oil due to piston rings lined up together from factory or oil seals not install right. Motor probably built on a Monday. An engine built to spec will go 100000+ mile before it wear enough to use oil. Think about it........

Just out of curiosity and no judgment on you, but how was the bike broken in?

The Glide sees a lot of highway time....fast highway time.

To me 1 qt / 1,000 or 1,500 miles is unacceptable.

'Hope your Dealer gets it sorted out for you.

Got a buddy with an '11 Ultra dealing with the same thing. They've run dye through it to see if it's seeping anywhere else (tranny/primary). There is no leakage or seeping externally. No excessive oil burning from a smell or sight standpoint (not smoking heavy on acceleration or smell of burning oil). He has an extended warranty and the latest dealer he's working with told him to run the damn thing until it's dry and then the moco will finally do something about it.

Anywho -- hope the moco/dealer come through for you soon. It's a shitty thing to deal with that's for sure.

That's exactly what I was dealing with...every last thing you posted. The NEW service mangier at the deal I take my bike to was the service writer when all this started. He made a call about two weeks ago now and now it's getting fixed, go figure.

Agreed...I was almost to the point I wanted to get rid of the damn thing....but I've got a ton of time and money tied up in blacking it out and setting it up the way I wanted. Didn't want to go through it again.
