I am going to do a 107 upgrade this winter. Obviously, I will look at ring alignment, valve seals, etc when I break it down. Although my 3/4 qt per 3500 miles is acceptable to me and does not constitute a problem to me, it's obvious there are variations in tolerances that can account for differences. I'll report back what I find.

I'm about 200 miles out from the second 500 mile consumption check....seems to be getting a little worse.

keep it documented

these machines are subject to Federal Emissions Standards and the manufacturer needs to ensure that the vehicles comply.

bringing that up may help you.

while there is no tailpipe emissions testing ( just cancelled the only remaining program in Maricopa County AZ) that doesn't mean that non-compliant vehicles are kosher- the manufacturer has a responsibility.

and if that much oil is disappearing, it is "emissions"

Stopped by the HD shop on the way home from work yesterday for the second 500 miles check...almost a quart low. Still don't know where its going but has to be burning off. They are calling Harley Tech Support and then go from there. Not sure why they are going about it like this but until they give some line about its normal or something I'm not gonna get to bent out of shape about it.

everyone is talking about the oil being burned, well then yes you have a problem.

How many here have read threads on guys filling 1/2 full on dipstick to cut back or eliminate dripping from AC?

Now try this before you rip that engine apart. Do not add oil unless it goes below the add mark. Let the engine find the level it wants (usually at 1/2 mark). Maybe the Chinese dipstick is the problem.

My story, I did exactly what I am saying. After adding about 3 quarts over time, each time it went to the 1/2 mark, a little at a time to top it off, I ran out, forgot to get some for weeks and when I did get around to it, the level was where it was before. I left it alone and kept checking often and I have been running at the 1/2 mark every oil change and DO NOT have to add between changes.

Try it what have you got to lose?

If you're talking to me the bike is still under warranty so I'm not tearing into the dealer is.

And it has been run all the way to the add mark before I took it in the first time, which is why I took it in in the first place.

It continued to get worse as the miles rolled by.

My best guess...vale seals or rings.

**UPDATE**

After dealing with this issue longer then I care to talk about the MoCo finally authorized the dealer to take action. They are going to boar the cylinders .005, replace pistons and rings, and all seals on the top end will be replaced replaced.

I don't know all the details yet but I'll post up the specs of ecactly what was done once I get the bike back if anyone is interested.

On a side note the last time I took it in for them to check the oil, the bike was ridden 1000 miles and had lost 38 oz. The bike had 6600 when I took it in the first time and has 10550 on it now and has had about 8 qts of oil added over that time.

**UPDATE**

Good, finally. It took WAY to long for them to take action. Just the cost of oil alone would **** me off. I have a '13 SG. Fill it half way up the stick and it stay's there between 5,000 mile (8000 km) changes. When the dealer filled it to the full mark it vented into the AF. Very little venting when I fill it half way up the stick. I'm sure the top end rebuild will do it, and give you a new top end to boot! I hope the bikes not down to long. At least you have a back-up bike.
