Default 2006 RK Mufflers on 2003 Ultra

I bought an 03 Ultra this summer. I was told the mufflers were SE but I've never seen a Harley pipe with no stamping on it. It has no SE markings or p/n.

I'm finding the pipe gets obnoxious on the highway. It sounds good in town but after a few hours on the open road my wife and I have ringing ears, even with ear plugs.

I can't afford the S&S Quiet Tour mufflers right now so I found a complete take off exhaust off an 06 RK on Crag's list for next to nothing so I jumped on it thinking all 88" touring exhausts were the same. Now I realize the 06 bikes had a cat and sure enough both mufflers are labeled as having a cat in them.

Will my bike run OK for a year or so with the stock FI tuning or will the cat restrict it too much? We've got a big road trip planned for next summer and I don't want to listen to the pipes that are on it right now. That being said, if these won't work I could probably flip them and find take offs off an 03 - 05 bike to put on.

Thanks for any experience or input.

The 06 did not have a cat.

Mufflers will fit from '95 on up.

The pipes from an '06 will fit.

edit: Just noticed you are Cdn. I don't know if things were different up there in '06, cats didn't start here until... 11? I believe.

Mufflers will still fit, and most likely do what you want. Run 'em.

I know the 2006 CVO mufflers had cats. Can't say about standard muffs.

These definitely have cats. The HD compliance stamping on the bottom of both mufflers states that they're in the mufflers.

My concern is the extra back pressure. Being an open loop fuel system in 03, I'm not sure how it will compensate.
