Default Changing from a 130 to a 180 on a 2001 FLTRU

I need a little help from those who have done this. I have been down this road before with my 2001 FLHT by using a skinner drive sprocket and belt to allow for a 150 tire. It worked but left only about 1/16" between belt and tire and no it dose not rub believe it or not.

So now I have a Road Glide and it's also an 01 and I'm wanting to move to a 180 tire from the stock 130. After doing some more research I found that if I used a drive sprocket and belt from an 07 model (which is even skinnier than what I used on my FLHT) than I would be able to fit a 180 in there.

Now for my dilemma, The fender width is now the issue and or the the strut width. I'm changing the fender to a stretch fender, but I wanted to know if anyone reading this has done it so that I can get some experienced advice before buying the tire and fender.

Thanks,

We are doing one also. you have to have a fender that goes over the frame rails. klock werks made one for the 180 conversion but it is discontinued. also we are going to a chain conversion. When a belt gets that skinny you lose the amount of power you can put to it.

Ok, so you have confirmed what I have heard about klock werks. I think the chain conversion is good advice also. Can I ask you what fender you are going with? Were you able to get the werks fender before discontinuing it? Also if I were to go over the struts with a fender does it eliminate docking hardware for backrest etc...?

or you can use the 07 SE Road King rear fender. it is a direct bolt on but requires you change the tail light

I am running a 180 on my 00 RK, I took a 09 fender and scalloped it to fit between the frame, from the rear bag support strut forward and built a metal fascia to hide the scalloped part of fender, or you can also check with Russ Wernimont designs RWD they have a rear fender kit also for the 180 fitment that doesn't look like a overlay, it fit between the frame rails. I am running a chain with a 120 c.i. motor. the easiest would be the 07 S.E. Road King fender, that bike came out with a 180/16 on it.

Subscribed... I want to do a 180 on my 03 FLH. I already have a stretched fender on mine that goes over the rails, but the stock one is partially there for support of my bad dad fender. Will it get in the way?

Yes it will get in the way, the 180 will not fit in the old fender. just to try one time couple years back, I cut the old fender right down the middle to spread and welded a section in to support the overlay, then the overlay fender would not fit because of the curvature spread out on the old fender.

this is how tight the 180 fits

here's old blue an 04 i put the SE Road King rear fender on. Its a complete bolt on. As you can see the 170/60/17 dunlop looks fairly wide under there.
