Road King Classic Saddlebag Problem

RE: Road King Classic Saddlebag Problem
I have not heard of the lid cracking before. What year model is it? It may be a defect in the bag. Check ebay for a replacement. Make sure you treat your leather every 5-7 washes (sounds like a lot but mine is an '03 and the bags look brand new because I do this.) Is it the top of the lid or the side? Overloading the bags may have something to do with it.

its a 98. Its the top of the lid, right at the front.. im thinking there might have been a defect in the plastic. Im currently looking for a replacement on ebay. I treat the leather every couple of months.. but while we are on this topic what do you use on your bags?

I have been using Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam for a few years. It seems to be a bit thicker than what HD sells. I have used both, but I prefer the Dr. Martens. You should be able to get it at any good shoe store or online. I let it dry for a couple of days then wipe off the excess. Also, I occasionally clean the bags with Saddle Soap. To me, keeping the leather looking new makes the whole bike look better.Since you are replacing one bag, you may be able to find some hard bags in matching color while you are looking on ebay. They have a bit more storage room than the leather ones. Good luck on finding a replacement.

I use Red Wing Boot Oil© that they gave me when I bought my Red Wing boots. I lay on a thick layer with a 2" disposable foam paint brush and wipe off or rub in the excess a few hours later. You have to look real close to be able to tell they are not brand new. The bike is a 2000.

I've had the same problem with the saddlebag lid warping and cracking despite treating the leather appropriately. It has also caused the plastic to crack. I've been looking for a way to repair it, but haven't found any information. I've seen the same problem on a number of other bikes with the exact same bags so I figured someone had to know of a way to repair the problem without having to buy new bags. Any ideas?
