I also use 0000 steel wool. Keep it wet with WD-40 or even water and rub gently.

I use 0000 steel wool and Windex on all my chrome and have for years.

I've never tried the aluminum foil, but heard it works well

Use a penny, the older the better as they contain a higher copper content.
Copper is softer than chrome and won't scratch the surface. It works
great.

This is going to sound overly simply, but let the pipes cool and try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I had the remains of a rubber boot sole, and melted rain suit on my heat shield. I used Moco cleaner without much success. I used the Magic Eraser and I'm not kidding the stuff came right off. I don't know how it works, but it does.

Oil. I had some oil puke out of my stage 1 AC, and it is cooked onto the exhaust shield nicely.

Don't want to use anything that will scratch, mar, dull, discolor, or otherwise molest the chrome finish.

Anyone have suggestions.

Thanks,
Jeff

The best chrome polish. I don't know how you can own a harley without this stuff.

$1 oven cleaner at the discount store. Don't get it on painted items. Use in ventilated area. Spray on and wipe off. If gunk is being difficult, heat the pipes. It is oven cleaner. And you can't beat the price.

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'll be giving it a try in a few hours.

Thanks again,

I have ruined pipes with oooo steel wool. Great success with a product called Colonel Brassy. Some dealers carry it.

BTW the Harley stuff is useless.
