Funny. I have abuddy who is obsessed with this . Couldn't take the mild popping on deceleration and between shifts. Went thru numerous exh/ intake combos. The best so far is his stock pipes(12 RK) w khromewrks HP + muffs and a S&S single bore tuned intake .aa this with a mild Crane cam and minimal head work and a very good tune.

possibly not reversion your Pal is concerned with- reversion is caused by exhaust pulses rebounding up the exhaust and traveling past the open exhaust and open intake valves during the period of cam overlap.
This will happen at steady and predictable rpm ranges

If I were dealing with what your buddy was dealing with, I too would be obsessed with it. What you describe as being the problem he had, is not even close to reversion.......with all due respect (and I mean that).
