Default Question: Replacing Headers-Tune Necessary?

I've seen numerous threads saying that replacing the headers with catless ones and installing slip ons does not require tuning as long as you don't replace the intake. My dealership is saying that replacing the header with a catless one requires tuning as it greatly reduces back pressure. Anybody have any better info on this?

This doesn't directly answer your question, but why do the exhaust components and leave in the restrictive stock air cleaner? Open it up all the way. Then yes, tune it as well.

I installed SE air cleaner, Fulsac header, and Rinehart 4" slip-ons, with dealer installed stage 1 tune. It's not perfect, but it is pretty close. I am waiting to get a Power Vision tuner to clean it up. I would recommend either a stage 1 tune, or have someone tune the bike. You are going to lose a bunch of back pressure, and may run pretty lean as a result. My bike is a 2013 FLHR.

I don't recall losing anything when the tune was right. If you don't tune it, you could be disappointed. Pumping more air through the system without bumping fuel and adjusting timing could really lean it out. Worst case, could ping like a ***** and do some damage long term. Lot's of tuning options out there. I went with Powervision, but that's probably the most expensive , albeit one of the best options.

The Dealers are going to hock that stage 1 download every chance they get.I'd go ahead and do it first see if you like the way it runs then decide for your self. Also it depends on how much back rap, popping and or back firing your willing to put up with.

I don't agree that you should put up with any amount of that. 20K+ for a bike and you "put up with" it? Not to mention that a lean tune runs hotter. Combine that with excessive pinging and I think you are not going down a good path. It's your bike...
