I'm a firm believer in slowly breaking motors in.....You only get 1 chance....Running it hard at break-in has no advantages IMHO....I took it easy for the first 500 miles on my SG and that was 21,000 miles ago....and 230,000 miles ago on my Toyota Tacoma

On second tank of gas I did ride a little bit harder changing RPM's, and shifting between
gears getting close and up to about 3700-RPM. Starting the third thank of gas tomorrow
at close to 500 miles I am going to just ride normal with a few run up to 4500 RPM's going
through the gears.

Congratulations on the purchase! It is a sweet ride. Rode the "Triple Nickel" in Ohio yesterday and had a blast. 400 miles of riding with no complaints. Time for the 1000k service.
Good luck with finding an "almost new" SG for $10k Wildon883R. If you do, I'd be asking what is wrong with it. And at $22k+, they were trying to take you to the cleaners. I would have ran out of there too. My '14 before down payment was not that much.

Congrats, but why are you "babying" the bike? Here's how it's done: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

This guy just spent a significant amount of money on a new bike and there are always trolls out there to tell someone how ridiculous their purchase is....XL owner in a touring forum.....hmmmmmmmm sounds like a wanna-be that doesn't have the funds, so in turn they will try to make someone else feel bad? I say nice purchase!!! Next people will tell you how stupid it is to buy a bike right before winter....as if you buy a new bike in the spring and get rid of it in the winter? People are always concerned about what other people spend their money on and then they have to throw their opinions in...I get it every day with my 2014 Street Glide. If it's not your money, don't *&%(# worry about what it's being spent on!!!!!! Keep riding your XL, and go to that particular forum please?

I love those SG! You need to post a picture when you can.

I can relate to the break in period. I live in a small town and was told no highway speeds until after 500 miles. This town is about 6 miles wide, so it took awhile to get my 500 in.
