+1 on Blackstone. I have used Blackstone several times over the past few years. Never a problem and they provide good info and will answer any questions you have.

+1 on Blackstone as well. They have good online reports for your engines and a LOT of explanatory data regarding the various metallic particles they find. This firm is used by a majority of trucking companies in my area to help determine if an oil change is needed or if a filter and additive package can be used. All good stuff.

I've also used Blackstone and would recommend them. They will send you the sample bottle for free.

+ 5 on Blackstone. Great customer service and it if you pay for he TBN analysis of additives remaining, they will advise if you can go longer between changes. I've been lucky and able to extend my changes in my cars, a nice money saver.

Thanks for the info. I have just ordered a test kit and requested a particle count test also as well as a TBN test. PC testing is where they measure particulate size in about 3-4 micron categories. My new motor is a metallic color so I need info to go back to the builder

Do they know the wear patterns of the engine? Just because they say you have iron and aluminium in the oil.....does that mean it is abnormal?
I can see them saying....."You can go another three thousand miles before you change oil."
But how much did that bit of info cost? I really don't know, but was it more than an oil change? Figure three quarts of oil, and some people skip the filter change (every other one). Me? I change my oil every three K....needs it or not. Heck.....for another couple qts, I change the tranny and Primary as long as I am there. Overkill.

They have a huge database of average markers for any given engine and they compare yours to the averages and give you specific comments and guidance. Like any other advice, you can take it or not. I used to change ever 3 too, but nowadays with 4 vehicles taking synthetic, that's getting expensive!
