Default Boombox 6.5 GPS is made by Harman

I figured since nobody could give a straight answer about who makes the new radios, I'd pull the radio out myself and take a look. I think I will send Harman a message about all the crackling and popping noise. I already told Harley (the actual MoCo, not the dealer) about it when they called to see how I was enjoying my new purchase. They said they have heard some complaints and are looking into it. Interesting how the radio says it must accept all interference even if it causes undesirable operation. I know that is an FCC rule with pretty much everything but I've never had a stereo with so much crackling and popping before.

I suspect the 4.5 is also a Harmon unit too. I have the popping in mine when using the radio. It doesn't happen with iPod input. Seems strange that the oldest tech is the most troublesome.

I plan to suggest a current time display on the GPS screen. I find myself toggling back and forth between the info screen to check time on long trips.

I agree with you about the time. It's ridiculous it can show you an ETA but not an actual time. It's on my list of complaints. As with you, the popping noise is only when the actual radio is being used. Digital media and Bluetooth connection has no popping. I've also noticed my Bluetooth connection seems to drop when I switch from pandora to FM. The radio says it's connected but it's actually not

You can set the GPS to display time by touching the Lower left hand display(it probably has ETA in it now) and a sub menu will pop up select time from that.. Mine was the same way till I changed it.

Looking at the OP pictures...(I haven't opened the batwing yet) Appears they have enclosures for the speakers...looks like a good spot to put acoustic foam (inside) to further enhance the sound quality....

I've not had any problems with those noises on my radio. And I agree, it's amazing just what you can do with it if you read that book that came with it. Why are so many so quick to gripe and so slow to actually find out there could be an easy solution??
