So I know that everyone asks this over and over again. And its really a personal preference because everyone likes a different sound. I just got my Charcoal Pearl 2014 Street Glide. I am really enjoying this bike since I previously had a 1996 Triumph Sprint, then went to a 2009 Ducati Monster 1100 and then I had a 2010 V-Rod Muscle which I just traded after having it for 3 years and loving Harley Davidson. I figured it was time for more comfort. I had Vance & Hines pipes on the V-rod. I really enjoyed the sound that bike made and I didn't find it annoying or obnoxiously loud like some other bikes. I know that loud pipes save lives but too loud gets annoying and you get a headache after a while. Plus will it be over powering for the stereo too if I go with something too loud? I am brand new to this forum and it seems great for information etc. I am thinking for now that I am just going to get Slip-ons because I don't want to go crazy with headers and power commanders as of now. Trying to save some money but get a nice look and a great sound. I was thinking of vance & Hines but which ones I dont know yet because I need to figure out the differences. I would also consider CFR 4" slip-ons or Rinehart slip-ons. I think I will stay with the Chrome theme of the bike. What are everyones thoughts or suggestions as to the sound differences of each one? I was told by the dealership that as long as I dont change the headers I will not need any power commander configurations..

 

I have the 4" Big Louie's (along with a true dual Rush Header) and they are only loud when you want them to be. They are plenty tame at cruising speed but have a deep throaty roar when reved.

 

well, smart money says go to bike night and see what other guys use.

some of the guys here are on the 3rd or 4th set of pipes. that gets spendy!

a set of mufflers will be completely different depending on which headers are used and whether there is a catalytic converter in place ( yours does stock).

" low rumble, not too loud, really barks when i get on it"


consider if you like the radio, and louder pipes are no fun 3 hours into an 8 hour ride.

V&H Monster Rounds. IMO, they're great for cruisers. They have a nice deep growl, but not so loud that they become annoying on long rides.

 

Thanks guys. And anybody heard CFR or how about Rinehart 4" slip-ons compares to these? I am leaving the stock headers on the bike.

 

I just put these $250 CFR knock offs on my 2014 SGS. Here's a little video of how they sound with the stock head pipe

 

Got no complaints with a set of Bassani slip ons. Decent deal off ebay to boot. I like the look of the stock breather so I'm not changing anything else and messing with tuners. This 103 does whatever I'll need it to do.
I had years of mods and pouring money into my 2002 Fat Boy. That finally got to where I want it to be after about 10 riding seasons. Now it'll never leave my possession.

 

My most recent slip ons are RC Excalibur and I love them. If I were you or if I change again I will go with the V&H Big Radius. The black would look great on your bike. I just think they look awesome on a bagger.

 

I actually just bought the same charcoal pearl street glide and i went with the screaming eagle 4" street cannons. They are exactly what i wanted, not too loud but deep sound.

 

Here is a V&H pro pipe chrome, on a 2014 street glide. MSRP 650 and it does away with your restrictive CAT problem!
