Default Bearing removal/install tool

Going to swap wheel bearings in a set of OEM 28 spoke mag wheels for a 12 UC. Local shops want right around $100 to do it. Seems high to me (wheels are off the bike) so I'm thinking about doing it myself. Found the tool on the HD site:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...l-install-tool

$320....wow! LSHD has it for $255, but still a ton of money for a tool I may, or may not ever use again.

Are there any other alternatives?

Thanks

David

Yessir there is. Take your wheels with you if you can to Autozone and use their Blind Hole Puller. Or you can pay the deposit and take it home and get your money back when you return the tool. As far as installation I use a rubber mallet and a socket the same diameter as the bearing. Seat the left side first (abs side) then the right side.

I bought a pit posse bearing tool off eBay for around $100.00 and it has worked great. Just a few things I wouldn't do have the dealership change bearings,it's a rip off, don't buy hd tools unless you have too,it's a rip off,and last but not least never hammer your bearings in its stupid and I know somebody is going to say they have been doing it for years and years but it's still stupid. One last thing if you got abs make sure you install them the proper way good luck

The wheel axle goes through, so you take a half inch extension bar and tap out the wheel bearing from the far side. To install the new one, the aforementioned socket and extension. Tap the new bearing in, this time from the same side.

10-15 minute job typically once the wheel is off.

Great find, I'm ready to jump on that. One question. I have a 2012, the description for the item says it'll work with 2000-2011 bikes. I'm pretty sure that there's not much difference in the 2011's and the 12's but I'd like to make sure. Will that bearing kit work with my 2012?

Thanks

David

I haven't tried this personally, but I've heard to put your bearings in the freezer for a few minutes before install and it helps them go in easier...
