Using Double Face Tape and Solvent is a method used for regripping golf clubs. Wrap the Double Face Tape around Handle Bar, coat with solvent, slide the grip on. Once the solvent dries, the tape adheres to the Grip keeping it on.
I have a full golf club repair shop in my garage so I know what you are saying. I did the club grip method on a couple pairs of grips that were rubber underneath with marginal success. Rubber cycle grips must be made of a different compound than club grips. I used my wife's super dooper pooper scooper hold hairspray on my last couple of cycle grips and it worked great. I used to use this method on my ATV grips as well.
Cheap can of aerosol hair spray. Spray in grip, slides on pretty easy. When hair spray dries in a minute or 2 it is sticky and will keep grip from sliding, but not to difficult to move if needed.
I used this method back when I raced BMX and it always worked well.
