Default What did your compensator sound like when it went bad?

I'm getting a bad knocking sound (it's loud) when I start my bike lately. Seems to be coming from the primary area. It will change with rpm until the motor warms up. It only makes the sound when it's cold. If I put my hand on the right side I can feel the vibration right through the bottom end of the motor. I can still hear it after the motor warms up but not as bad as a cold start.

Anyone that had their compensator go bad, what did it sound like? Getting ready to take it to dealer for warranty.

Mine was an :
'er, er, er...CLANK!.....blub, blub, blub, blub"

The 'er, er, er' is the starter turning over the engine. The 'clank'....is, well.....CLANK.
The 'blub, blub' is the engine running.

Did it CLANK as you say, for a few seconds after start up?

Mine makes a horrible knocking sound for at least 15 seconds when I start it cold.

Mine did not grind after the engine started....but once it did start....that Clank or Bang is a
WTF! moment. Usually did it once or twice.....then would start normal the next day...then do it again. Luckily bike was bought with extended warranty.
Be sure you ask for the screamin' eagle replacement.

Mine sounded like if you put socket in a coffee can and shook it.

Default Get it replaced

Mine went out a couple, three times under warranty. After the third time which was about 2 1/2 years ago and about 50k I have had no new issues with the compensator. The answer was my acceleration/shift points. When accelerating in 5th or 6th gear make sure RPM's 2500-3000. At least this has been working for me.

That's interesting. Never heard that before.
