I heard a sound like a bag of wrenches dropping to the floor. It only happened on engine shutdown. The mechanic showed me the old part. Pretty hard to believe such a poor design was installed on so many bikes.

Default noise?

my 13 limited goes "Grrr Grrr Grrr" when I let off the clutch lever. it has 6800 miles. Its not very loud but it is something my 06 EGC didn't do. Hmm?

When your compensator starts going bad, harder to find neutral, disengaging the clutch is more abrupt, clunks when shifting are louder etc.

Sounds like a bunch of lose ball bearings rattling around inside the primary.........Get it replaced as soon as possible. Should be covered under warranty.

Mine was a Squealing while on the kickstand.
At first, if i picked it upright it went away.
The clutch had no effect on the noise (engaged/disengaged sounds the same)
sounded almost like a belt rubbing/ball bearings flying around.

After a while it started getting worse and would continue if i picked it up.

When i shut the motor off you could hear 2 distinct "thumps" just after the motor killed.

Under load or at higher RPM it went away.. (or the motor drowned it out)

... Rode it 3000 miles home like that as there were no parts available in Utah at that time.

IF it is changing by pulling the clutch in/out, I would check the IPB.

When I would hit the starter it sounded like a hammer hitting something solid. At shutdown it would kinda clunk. Hot starts would kick back any require a second try. When taking off it would knock.

Went into the shop yesterday after work. Tech thinks it's the compensator just as I suspected. The weather here is turning cold fast. Just below freezing this Friday morning. Hope I get at least another 2 or 3 weeks riding.

There has only been one part number for the last couple of years so if you ordered a replacement, everybody got the one "previously known as Screaming Eagle compensator kit". Interestingly enough, because there have been any number of those units going south as well, the compensator assembly appears to have once again been redesigned in 2010 by the crack team of engineers at the MOCO for the 2014 model year.

Lack of lubrication has been suggested as the reason for failures for years. I don't have a degree in mechanical engineering but that has always looked like a big possibility to me.

I have read where they are going to be putting out a retro kit for earlier model years which will be made available sometime in the future (presumably in the next decade or two).
