Do I need a tuner?

The stage 1 download is pretty worthless. Spend the money on a tuner and the bike will run better, cooler with better mileage. The SERT is great but plan a good day at the dyno shop and spend the money on the software to tweak from there. Since you are buying a new bike, sticking with the SERT assures that there can't be finger pointing saying your brand x tuner caused a problem, and if you are ever in a place where there isn't a dyno at the dealer they can always flas you a canned map that will be about 90% correct for your bike and set up if need be.

Volumetric Efficiency.
My recommendation is the Power Vision tuner but you will get a different opinion from anyone you ask.
Here is a great thread on the subject of tuning with the Powervision.

I am picking up my 14 SG next week and I am getting the VH pro pipe with the performance baffle and a heavy breather. Would I need to get a tuner, or will the stock map be good enough to make the bike run fine as-is? I don't want suggestions on which tuner...just asking if I need one or if I should put that money toward a color matched inner fairing!?

Troll.....who said I believed them? All I was asking is if I needed a tuner for pipes and air cleaner. If I can save several hundred dollars and have the bike still run good and safely, why not? I didn't ask for someone to be a smart@$$. The SERT was chosen because that's what their guys have worked with most and there is no other dealer close by that I trust that has a dyno. I decided on my own to get a vance and hines pro pipe instead of going with an 09 head pipe and slip-ons....thanks for your concern

Look around your area too, pretty sure there are more component tuners than your dealer near you.
