Default How to tell if compensator fails?

My wife's 2010 Street Glide started making a weird noise that I just heard! Bike has no mods other than Vance and Hines true duals w/ Monster Rounds, PCV, And Air Breather all from Fuel Moto. 27,500 miles.
She pulled up next to me and placed bike in Neutral at a stop light. Let out the clutch and I heard this excessive whine noise? Put bike back in gear and it goes away. Take it out of gear and let clutch out the noise is back. Does not do this on startup only after it has been in gear! Does this sound like a compensator issue or something else? Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance!

Inner primary bearing going. If the IPB is being changed, might as well throw the SE comp in while there.

Mine just went out on me in the middle of a trip.

for me:
1. The noise was a squeal. not metal-chunk sounding
2. the noise was louder on the jiffy stand than standing upright (at first)
3. in 1st, 2nd,3rd it would still squeal at partial throttle.
4. At cruising speeds, i couldn't hear it (and drove 3000 miles this way to get home)
5. Tended to be worse when the engine was cold
6. If you listen right next to the front of the primary and have somebody shut the engine off, you can hear 1 or 2 clunks just after the engine kills.

hope this helps.

Little more info?
last service on bike? last clutch adjustment? Last time checking the play in the primary chain?

Compensator is like usally a bang at start up. or Sound like rocks or marbles rolling around in the primary.

Serviced at 25,000...clutch adjusted...self adjusting primary. No marbles or Rocks sound and no banging. Previous thoughts indicate Inner Primary Bearing...that sounds plausible to me. I will have it checked!

Thanks!

Dealer or self? Dealer shouldn't charge more than 1.5 hours. Have to pull the primary cover, pull clutch and comp and chain tensioner, undo two starter bolts, pull inner primary and then change the IPB and then put it all back together.

25700337 seal kit $61.95
34901-07 primary cover gasket $35.68
9231 IPB $11.90
Form+ x 45oz $20ish
Labor @ $85/hr x1.5 $127.50
What dealer calls shop supplies $5

Total=$262.03 so if a dealer does it you should pay no more than $270 or so. Do it yourself and spend under $100

My vote goes to the inner primary bearing race. That is what I have seen on several. Inner race is pitted/gauled badly. The inner race doesn't want to come off easily either and is sold separately. It is usually out of stock also. Good luck!
