How do you fix a crooked fairing? Possibly Wrecked?
My recently acquired 2001 RG has a crooked fairing, along with cracked header exhaust. Ive tried adjusting the fairing where it attaches to the crash bar, it straightened it out some but it is still out of alignment. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? Also would dropping a bike cause this? The more I examine the bike I am starting to think it has suffered more serious damage other then the previous owner just dropping it. all on the right side of the bike has some sort of damage to include The crash bar has dents and rust on it, the headers/exhaust is cracked, saddle bag is all scratched up and the fairing appears to have had some type of body work to fix where it was busted up. underneath the right foot peg on the frame is rust where the frame has received some sort of damage. IM going to include pics to see what you guys think. The bike runs good but there is some sort of wobble from time to time. Im starting tot hunk the frame might be bent. Is there a way I can run the VIN to find out if this bike was involved in a wreck? Or should I not worry about it and just fix everything, or even git rid of it!
I’m pissed at myself for not seeing all this before I purchased the bike. The stealership certified this bike and told me it was good to go. Wondering if I should have trusted them..

The crash bar is probably tweaked. It could be the bracket that holds the fairing to the frame, but I doubt it. Change the header. Change the crash bar. A little body work and some custom paint will make it yours! I assume you got it a a good price. Your insurance company should be able to run your vin for you.

well the pics are difficult to review however pic #1 the fairing looks like it has been more than dropped, pic #3 the bracket under the floor board could have been scraped in a turn so that does not appear to be an issue, You should see mine, its worn worst that that one and I know my RG has never been down.
Pic #6 could have been caused by a drop, i have seen that happen or it could have been scraped in a hard cornering turn. Saw quite a few cop bikes with this type of wear, those guys really get into the turns and can ride.
last pic, the saddlebag does look heavily scrapped, so that looks odd for just a drop.
I think you biggest concern is the fairing and saddlebag. This rest appears minimual from looking at the pics. The way to check for yourself as to whether or not you have anything bent is to check the headlight alignment on a road glide. IF you have a bent fairing bracket, the headlights will not align, no matter what you do. This is the bracket that bolts to the frame and keeps the fixed fairing fixed. Get a service manual and check you headlight alignment. its easy and cheap, if you can get the headlights to align without running out of bolt, then you probably are dealing with minimum problems other than routine wear and tear.
