Default Nitrogen in tires

I just put new tires on my 2010 Ultra and they offered to inflate with nitrogen at no charge which I agreed to. My question is if any on else has done so and if so have you noticed any differences in wear, ridability or length of inflation?

If free why not but if you have to pay then just know it is a sales gimmick.

My tires have 78% nitrogen in them.

It's not a complete gimmick but I don't think you should ever pay for it. I use nitrogen but get it for free. The only real benefits are that it is a larger molecule and will not leak out as quick and since it's moisture free, is less susceptible to pressure changes with temp changes.

We use it in aircraft for the temp changes, leak rate and the fact that it is an inert gas and won't fuel a fire with O2.

Nitrogen molecules are large- they tend not to migrate through the rubber as easily

Nitrogen is less affected by changes in temperature...or altitude.

This gives better, more predictable traction when conditions change.

Those of us who frequently change altitude appreciate that.

Costco is now doing nitrogen fills, and the nice guys there have let me do my bikes as well.

as noted above, the atmosphere is about 78% Nitrogen...that last 20% makes quite a difference.

I might guess that less Hydrogen and Oxygen in the tire, might make for less rust type trouble over time

In Wi we have 40 degree swings, between early morning and late afternoon. So nitrogen sounds like a good idea. The dealer supposedly put it in my bike for free when I bought a new rear tire, but I didn't notice any difference.

Same swings out here in Cali but unless its free ill pass. My rims arnt rusting and I check my pressure about once a week. Free is good but...
