"Adjusting the clutch" regulates where your clutch engages in terms of the distance from your handle bar to the clutch lever.
The gap in the cable is regulated by the adjuster on the clutch cable.
Others correct me if I'm wrong, but if he has lost the slack in his cable, his clutch plates must have worn dramatically.

Thanks to all for the quick response)
I've had the bike since new. 09 UCEG. 66,000 kM (41,000 Miles) As far as I know it's never been adjusted. I don't notice any slippage from the clutch just the gap is a lot less than 1/16".

I believe a full clutch adjustment is in order. It doesn't seem right to have so little play in the lever.
I have 65K+ on my 06' and haven't felt the need to adjust anything as of yet. Their is a tad bit of extra play in the cable, but the clutch has been right on the four years I've had the bike. I've put on 53K+ of those miles. It believe it will still bark a tire.
