Default Want some clunck gone

I have 5k on bike. Its a 13 UC. Changed trans and primary oil at 1k to HD transmission primary oil. Why is there suck a loud clunk when shifting were does the sound really come from and how do u get rid of some of the noise. Some bikes seem louder than others. Mine is loud. has been loud from day one compared to my other bikes

there will be some clunk ( shoulda heard my '74 BMW!)

it is all about the design of the tranny and the way the gears are cut.

as long as you have quality lube ( I use the HD) in the correct quantity ( overfilling will cause oils to foam- and the foamy oils do not lubricate as well.

a heavier lube may quiet down the tranny- BUT it will also eat power...this is a balancing act

You might have a look at the clutch adjustment- if the clutch is not full disengaging, shifting will be rougher

Its just the character of Harleys, embrace it, its not anything to worry about.

Get rid of the Harley lube. I'm running Gear saver Bel-ray 85-140 in the transmission and mobile fully synthetic 4T 10-40 in the primary. My bike shifts without hardly any noise. Change and you won't believe the difference.

2014 model fixes that. Just kidding, I run synthetic and it makes it better but there is still a clunk. Like the other say, adjust the clutch but really it is still going to clunk. Dont know I embrace it but it is what it is. No harm.....

yeah. ive heard if no clunk then u have a problem. this bike seems to clunk louder that my previous bike so was wondering if i put a 85/95 trans fluid with clutch saver in the primary. wondering if 20/50 is to heavy for clutch plates

Make sure rear belt or chain is tight. I notice the clunk more when it's loose from harder riding

Harley 6-speed transmissions are knows as "clunk shifters" in some circles. Some more than others. If you are getting what you think is excessive clunk your next chore should probably be to check the clutch adjustment in the primary case. They will all clunk loudly when going from neutral to first, but if the clutch is properly adjusted it should shift much quieter when going upward through the gears. Otherwise upshifting could be pretty noisy and annoying.

At Least you aren't left wondering if its in gear or not !

Character trait ! I like that :-)

Silky smooth , quiet, not too hot, lighter handling, civilised, would be....er like all the other Japanese cruisers.

I would not like that !

Just toilet trained will do

Cheers
