Two changes in 2014 service manual we all need!

To clarify the transmission oil differences, On the 2014 models the transmission oil level is checked by screwing the dipstick in until the o-ring touches the case which will result in a lower oil level in the transmission. Prior to the '14s you did not screw the dipstick in, you just put it on top of the case and then checked the level. This should account for the 14's requiring a little less transmission lubricant.
so, changing the "how to check" instructions somehow changes the requirements of the transmission? "Honey, I figured out how to save us money, I changed the instructions now I don't have to buy as much fluid!"

Yep, it sure does. The dipstick will be lower in the transmission case when you screw it down to where the o-ring begins to touch the case so that would tend to make the oil level lower than before and less fluid is now needed to fill the gearbox.
Hey, I'm just the messenger here, it you don't agree, give Harley Davidson a call.

Harley first decided that less fluid would be better, then secondly decided to be clever and keep using the old dipsticks but change the check procedure.

Does anyone have any real information on this topic? I had a '12 RoadGlide. The service manual said trans. capacity was 28oz. But, check procedure was bike on jiffy stand and dip stick rest on threads only. Now, I have a '14 StreetGlide with the MoCo's service manual saying trans. capacity still at 28oz. But, check procedure was bike on jiffy stand and dip stick rest on threaded all to the "o"ring.
Funny thing is, with me and the old procedure, I'd always end up putting in 32oz when during the final check. I had and '08
StreetGlide with the same old procedure and would end up putting in 32oz due to the final check.
What gives? Has the MoCo overlooked the error in service procedure since the inception of the 6 spd cruise drive transmission till now? Has something changed in the new 6 spd? Has the dip stick been shortened?
