Default Auxillary Switch Housing Question

I am considering buying an auxiliary switch housing, HD part number 70248-02B. There are 3 others (chrome, left, right, etc.): 70255-02B, 70256-02, 70213-02C. I would like to install various switches in it for use with a garage door opener, SIRI activation, etc. These would require a "momentary" switch action. The only switch I've been able to find that fits the housing is an on-off switch, part number 71718-02.

Does anyone know of other HD switch part numbers that fit this housing? I've looked through the P&A catalog, but all it says is "switches sold separately". My Googling has produced no viable candidates either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

figure out what you'd like to do- the end result and you can then approach each.

the simplest thing to do with a garage door opener is to replace the opener switch with a relay.
wire the relay so that it goes "on" with the high beam or horn...you just flick the high beam and "Open Sesame"

takes minutes

there are other easy solutions to just about anything you might want to do, especially if you use relays to have 1 function control a secondary added function.

I even know a couple of guys who use switches mounted on the floorboards...

You could use 71764-07 in the lower switch panel if you have any open slots.....2 momentary switches in one.

I use it for my garage door opener.

MKGUITAR, excellent suggestion. I suspect this is how the Harley GD opener works, but this is a much cheaper solution.

bsnilloc, that would have been a good option, but all 4 lower switches are used in my Ultra Limited.

I was actually thinking of adding the HD 'Gear Indicator' (p/n 70900078, $182 at KutterHD) which would leave one empty slot for adding a momentary switch.

Thanks for both of your suggestions, Rob.

gear indicator is kinda a geegaw- but if you need it...

the "diy mods and tricks" sticky is handy

mkguitar, thanks for the link to the DIY Mods page. There are a lot of cool things in there. One of the first things I'll do is the Radio Shack siren installation. Can't go wrong for $7.

$14...do 2 wired in parallel.

some of us run the wiring under the tank and mount the siren up under the front of the fairing or under the lower dash panel.

Gee, a guy could certainly do many of those mods using momentary switches that could mount in the auxiliary switch housings, if I could only find the HD part numbers!

Mike, I haven't attempted running any wires under the tank yet. Is there much clearance under there? I ran my 12V pigtail under my Heritage tank. That was a b*tch... no clearance under there. What's the process for the Ultra?

Thanks again, Rob.

on late models the wiring all runs through a trough.

remove the tank, the fuel connector is like an air hose...push up on the metal collar and the fuel line drops down- depressurize system first by letting sit overnight, or run bike and pull fuel pump fuse ( although this can throw a code).

some bolts, some plugs

lift the tank off, pop open the trough.

I have some air horn wiring, headphone jack, alarm wires and have laid in a couple of extra connectors for future projects.

takes minutes- easier with less gas in the tank.
