Yep, I doubt that those that think they are breaking even really are breaking even when you do the math, i.e., down payment, upgrades and what was paid for the new bike. The house always comes out on top.

Dealers around here were full of people because of the 110th and they were really selling a lot of bikes. The salesman I know and deal with told me to not even bother asking, as he knows he can't give me a good deal.....yet. He said to come back in October. For those that you know that are getting good deals, more power to them.

Breaking even is a relative term, to me anyway. I put a good down payment on my bike; I'd be getting a raw deal if I just broke even on a trade in based on what I owe on it. I always say - your money, your decision. If you're happy that is ALL that counts.

I seriously hope you enjoy your new ride!!!

BTW...thank you for your service.

Don't get me wrong I understand your point. Those of us that are getting decent deals is because we put enough money down that if we did decide to trade it wouldn't be painful. But I also understand not everyone is in that position so yea they will take a hit and some dealers are better working with your trade than others.

A friend of mine was a salesman at a Harley dealer. He told me in 2012 the Electra Glides have a $5,000 markup from Invoice to MSRP. They can knock $500 off the MSRP and give you $3,000 over Wholesale for your trade making you think you got a great deal. But they actually still made a $1,500 profit on you. How do you think they afford the big fancy dealerships and are able to tell people they are giving you close to what your trades cost new as a 1-3 year old trade-in? When I bought my 2012 Ultra Limited in March of 2012 I didn't have a trade in. They knocked $4,000 off the MSRP. Paid $20,999 for a bike that the MSRP was $24,999. Even then they still made a $1,000 profit. But my friend said that was the best the owner of the dealership would let him do for me.

With all the new feature of the 2014's there is a lot of demand. When the is a lot of demand the dealer knows he can get away with getting top dollar for what he is selling and giving bottom dollars for trades.

4 to 6 months from now when were out of the riding season and sales slow and there trying to make quota it may get better.

So, I"m doing the math. I bought a 2012 RK with ABS, Sec, Anti Lock new.
I paid $16,999 OTD. It was purchased 14 months ago.
I always finance a portion of it to keep a credit rating.
Now I only owe $2,500.00. By your math, if they give me what I owe, I've broken even.
Don't give up your day job.

The only reason I say come out even is because I picked it up for 18,400 from a car dealer last month with only 2100 miles on it. So I don't have a lot invested in it. I really like the color of my 2012 though big blue pearl and black.

Not clear what you are being offered, because I don't see what you owe. What '14 are you trading for?

Good for you! What you getting? I'd like to get a cvo for a second bike and hopefully leave it stock except for the bars. Been thinking about maybe even a bmw r1200rt. Idk. That all black 90th addition is really digging at me.
