Everything is tight that I checked, actually filled up with new gas on my way home from Pittsburgh, and it does not do it at idle, just under half or more throttle. I didn't idle for 2 hours, I was in and out of heavy traffic with periods of idling for 2 hours.

I'm gonna call in the morning, just bummed out about it. It is a new sound that developed on Saturday, wasn't there in the 1st 11,250 miles. Thanks guys, i'll let you know what they say.

Nope not true. The stealership told me that engine pinging/spark knocking/ detonation is "NORMAL" and doesn't do any damage to the engine when I brought my bike in for pinging. They wouldn't lie to me would they???

Install an oil cooler OP!!!!

Slight occasional ping under load would probably not be that harmful although I would try and get rid of it. Constant ping or more serious heavy detonation should be cause for concern. Internals are taking a beating over time.

Check both ends of the top cross brace/link at both ends for looseness. My son had an intermittent loud rattle and the frame end of the link had worked loose.

Yeah that's true. I thought it was BS when the stealer said they come lean from the factory, but after seeing the blueing and discoloration of the pipes under the heat shields, they might be right. If the ECM programming was correct and the engine temperature was regulated, I doubt you'd get any pinging at any time. And I personally believe we shouldn't have to accept that as "normal".

Check the exhaust bracket that holds the pipe that goes under the frame. Mine was loose today and caused me a concern as well. Had to tap with a hammer to tighten the bracket. Th bolt was tight but the pipe was able to rattle in the clamp still.

I was totally off base....my problem was the exhaust pipe coming off the rear jug was missing the bolt at the top. 5 minute fix and I was on the road. Mechanic said the 103 is practically bullet-proof knew it wasn't a motor issue! 2 days of stress and worrying for nothing. I swore it was coming from the front jug!

Glad is worked out and it's running right. I would hardly say the 103" is bullet proof, although I wish it were.
