if you already have the $30 "harness", you may be able to reach it by turning the handlebars to the left, find the wires underneath the "cap" (where the switches are) trace the wires with your fingers until you can find the plug. I was able to find the plug but not enough room to be able to work (not enough slack in the wires). So I pulled the outer fairing off. I've pulled the outer fairing off so many times it doesn't bother me at all when I realize, for whatever reason, i need to do it.

Wiring Mod Vs harness
I took the fairing off to plug in the harness. Did the install when I had the fairing off to install new speakers and an amp.
As to the wiring mod to the aux switch, problem with that mod is you if you turn off your aux switch to turn off aux lights, you can't use other items (like heated vest or anything else).
Quick easy and $30 is cheap

It takes all of about 30 minutes o complete. Only the switch assembly has to be removed. And best of all it's free.

I just used the power wire from the acc switch to the spot light switch so I am still using the right switch , if you can do some basic wiring , you have to take the outer fairing off any way so why waste the money on the plug kit . if you can't then the kit is just plug and play , but good mod either way
