Any time you trade in, you're bending over. Unless you sell privately, get what you want for it and run it through the dealer to get the tax break.
I have a 2012 and there is no way i'll be trading or selling for another few years. Maybe never. If i had a lemon, yes....but mine is good as gold with lots up upgrades. Few more things and i'll have the bike the way i want it.

I was shocked to see how the value has sunk on our bikes due to the new 14's.
As stated by one dealer everything else is Irrelevant, trade in value Is at an all time low dealers want us to believe there is no market for older bikes.
He started by saying no one is coming through those doors to look at your 2012, every one want's a 2014, I won't be able to sell your bike at a profit and then he offers me 12k for my 2012 SG with 9000 miles and tons of upgrades.
I literally turned around and walked out, he chased me and said wait I can give you an extra 500.00 for your bike. Total 12.5 for my bike.

Good post. When I was looking at used bikes in Fall '10, I was getting discouraged. I slowly worked my way up to considering an 07 or 08, but then figured I might as well buy new. Luckily. in Jan '11 I found a garage
Queen 2003, with 2,090 miles which was a big savings over new. So that makes sense that late model used are hard to sell.

actually it isn't. there is a new cam, a new compensator (again), a completely new front end (bigger forks, different steering head), and i'm sure there's more.
what would you consider a 'new' bike? i like the fact that many parts that work on 2009 also work on my 2013. there are a lot of parts that will not work on the 2014.

That is a good point. But they would need to make some serious mechanical upgrades for me to purchase a new model. I don't get too excited over cosmetic stuff. As one of the previous posters stated, it really isn't a new bike if they only change bolts and levers, these are small upgrades that should occur from year to year. Other than the 103 engine and mirror relocation, the SG has not changed a whole lot in several years.
