I've gotta a knock at idle and heave read that it could be a loose compensator nut on my 2000 RKC w/57K.

I've got both inspection covers off and all screws on the case are out but the cover will not budge.

Any tips? Is this normal?

 

Yep. Normal. Use a rag to protect the cover & a soft rubber mallet. Put the rag on the cover & hit it with the mallet. Several sharp, but not real hard, blows from different angles will break the adhesion. Be prepared to catch the cover if it falls off.

cloth and soft hammer an hard hit, also someone to catch it or protection for when it falls.

 

Leave a couple bolt in but backed off a full turn or so, then it wont fall.

I just grabbed it by the inspection derby hole and pulled outward and off it came.
