Not everyone is on the New Bike Band wagon. New doesn't always mean better.
Amen!

jmo but
Not everybody rides as much as me and some here 15-20k in a year.
Lot of people bought bikes when gas went up, figuring to save money.
But then realize the payments, registration, insurance was not saving them
anything if the bike was bought on a loan and not cash.
so after refiguring finances and they weren't really into biking anyway, gave
them up.
Plus as above posts, families came along and ready cash was needed for somthing.
Some may have lost jobs etc.

If you dont average at least 7500 miles a year on your touring bike, you should be slapped silly.

On the Bulletin Board here at work, is a 2006 EG Classic for sale, 700 (!) miles $15.5K WTF!That isn't enough time to even find out if you like it.

I will also agree that there are some unscrupulous dealers getting wanna-be SS bikers in WAY over their heads. An aquaintence of mine just bought a 2003 Ultra from a notoriously greedy dealer here in St. Louis, and paid almost 25K for it. Its a nice bike but, Jeez! He coulda got a new one with pretty much all the same stuff on itfor that. Top that off with the 19% APR that they stuck him with and he is paying 450 a month for 10 (yes 10!) years.

This poor and stupid schmuck was so blinded by wanting a Harley, that he would have signed over a kidney to make the deal. Now he cant ride it,because he dont have the cash to pay the sales tax and cant get it licensed, he cant sell it (no one would pay what heneeded to get out from under it)and he is behind on his payments.

I would laugh if it wasnt so tragic.

Well the engine or the 6th speed or the price of gas or the cheap credit, Whatever. It does make for a good supply of used baggers for the common man. For me I seem to trade every 3 years and ride 15-20K a year. So like some others I got lucky in 07.

There are lots of bargains out there! But I got my rig the way I want it, and it took a while, so I am gonna keep it. When the 07's came out, part of me wanted to take a shot at one of em, but you lose too much money, and I would rather have a DD6 as opposed to the HD tranny, so I am staying with the 06. Hopefully no extended shop stays this season, so I can ride more. 88 inches and 5 gears is just fine.

They don't get ridden, pure and simple. Check out a web site or one of the local cycle traders papers and see all the late model HD's with low mileage.

Its not just baggers! Try selling an 03 Sportster with 20,000 miles. Let alone the bashing pre04 takes for not being rubber mounted. Itis like the chart don't register that high. 8,000 miles is alot for 5 years. I for one don't understand buying one and not riding except that they don't leak oil like they use to so you can keep them on a carpet next to your bar and H-D Snap On box and wall of H-D teddy bears, mugs, cho cho train, andadmirethem.

Poor customer service in my area.....is the reason I'll be selling.

Dealership(s)don't appear to have the customer's best interest at heart!

The novelty wears off quick when the service s*cks!!

Unfortunately, this isn't limited to Harley dealers. My philosophy is to buy the bike you want - regardless of brand - and hope that you have a good dealer to stand behind it.

I think those are parts of the reasons. But the temporary status seekers are also a source of lotsa good deals on low mileage bikes. And, then there's the folks who buy a heavyweight class bikebut it scares the bejabbers out of themso it sits until 2 or 3 years later when they can come up with another reason for selling it.
