Default Road King or Road King Classic ?

I have been looking at updating my dyna to a used late model (2007 or newer) Road King and prefer the hard bags other than that I am undecided and wondered what would the preference be between the two and why, pros and cons of each from those who know.

At the end of the day it will come down to price and what is available but your info may help to sway me one way or the other.

Thanks in advance for any input.

White walls, hard bags, wheels. Do you like hard shell, black walls and mag wheels? I like leather bags, white walls and smooth laced wheels that were on my RKC.

Look at the bikes side by side in pix and you will know right away.

Like road trips? Go RK

Prefer the classic look and stay closer to home? RKC

Of course both are capable of either, but this is how I distinguish the two.

If I had my choice all over agian. I would get a Classic for the cruise (and depending on the year a bigger motor) and laced wheels, but switch to the hard bags which a better for touring as stated above. Plus I like the look of the hard bags.

Why? My hubby has a RKC and it is a fine touring bike even has cruise. We added a nice aftermarket set of chrome speakers that has a radio in his bags.
We routinely go on 1000-2000 mile trips him on his RKC and me on my deluxe. RKC and RK is really do you like hard bags or soft bags not short or long trips.

I agree, classic bags hold more gear and are just as weather proof as the hard bags. They need leather treatment now and then, but that is faster and easier than waxing my SG hardbags.

As for choice, I think it comes down to looks.

Hard bags or c/control on the Classic, hard to decide. I Prefer the hard bag R/K and would forego the C/control. Just me.

Up to you man. I had both styles side by side at the dealer and my wife liked the look of the Classic. Guess what I got?

Try to go with 2009 or newer. The frame was updated and has better handling characteristics vs. pre-09. The main diff are color choice (other than black), cruise, wheels/tires and those bags. After that, it's the little details if that matters to you like front fender appointments, license plate location, tank emblem, seat. Also, I think in '11, you can get the 103 powerpak on the RKC, so that may be a consideration. You could get hard bags for the RKC and have 2 bikes in one.

From my sig, I guess you can tell which one I like.

I prefer leather bags for ease of maintenance, but hard bags for security. Yeah I know the hard bags can be broken into or stolen. Locks keep honest people honest. But at least they can be locked. Not at fan at all of white walls or laced wheels. Guess it all depends on what your priorities are.
