They are really that good and stable.
As to whether that is worth the extra money or not is up to you. It was to me, and I couldn't be happier with mine.

I use a chinese made $69 jack from sams club ( I also buy my gas at sams and costco).
it works...I have had dozens of bikes on it for jobs big and small over the past 15 years or so.
common sense says;
level floor, stable bike, don't take it higher than you need, don't wrench so hard that you knock it over, don't let the dog or kids run into it and
REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU TAKE THE REAR WHEEL OFF THE BALANCE POINT CHANGES!
twice I had to help Pal's lift the bike off the floor, one pulled the wheel and the bike nose dived, another had the kids run into it and spin it off the lift
both cases:
up higher than needed, not secured to their lift
one of these WAS a premium priced lift
save $330

Love my J&S jack - bought it earlier in the year. Very smooth to move around and stable on the jack. My garage is full of other 'toys' and the jack helps me move my bike out of the way to park it. As for price - I think they give discounts for forum members and an additional discount for veterans.

I have a J & S, but I got friends that got these that seem to work pretty good.
