Default Premium Tour Pac Latches Questions

Decided to look into buying the new premium tour pac latches.

did a lot of searching on this topic and found several older posts talking about the problem with installing the new rivets in the two stock holes on each upper latch..

Well, I then search and downloaded the HD inst for this part and it now looks like the Rivets in the two stock holes (were the older ones were before you remove them) is no longer being used with Rivets???

So, am I missing something or has HD changed the install??

looks like now the new upper latch part ONLY uses a guide pin in the new upper latch into the old rivet hole??

Here is the link for the inst

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ur-pak-latches ONLY FOUR BOLTS,, NO RIVETS

I am not seeing any mention of rivets in the install for the upper part of the latch

I've procrastinated buying the premium latches for the same reasons. So I'm not real familiar with the previous, rivet-style application. But it sure looks like they've been replaced with nuts and bolts. I even went over the parts list on the last page of the install instructions, I don't see any mention of rivets anywhere at all.

I'm curious to know as well. Let us know what becomes of this.

I have them they are bolted on now, no rivets. Bolts go from inside trunk into hinges, drill out rivets and install pretty easy job. IF we're talking hinges not latches that is I just reread orginal post.

The pic's show the bolts and without the proper riveting tool the original type rivets would be a major pain in the posterior to use to attach the new latches ... Hence the replacement bolts.

I am talking about the Latches NOT the hinges..

new inst do NOT show any rivets - in place of the rivets - current inst show ONLY a guide pin - then the upper bolts

This is my question to anyone who has recently installed them

Unless we're not looking at the same *.pdf file ( Instructions for the LATCHES ) part numbers 9 and 10 are BOLTS for the LATCHES ...
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J05564.pdf
Figure #2 is for reference when removing the original latches.

I believe we are talking about the same... if you go to your link,,, look at the picture titles (Service parts) Look at "A" those look to be GUIDE PINS and would go into the holes where the orig rivets for the old top part of the latches would go..

Just making sure Iam seeing this right, because when I did a search on here, I found older posts and these same latches were using rivets in that area??

OK, just went to Kutter HD web site to place an order... In the small print... says these will NOT fit a chopped pac??? I did see where they are suppose to fit 06 and later but this was because of the lock set up??? and that could be taken care of, but NOT to fit a chopped pac??? the only difference in a chopped pac and a king is that the box is about 3 inches shorter,,, same lid,, in fact, I have my king lid on my chopped HD Box

any suggestions

Pretty easy install. Kit comes with template for drilling. The only thing with the chopped pak is that the latch housing may extend above the lid.
