I believe your Amsoil is getting darker as it's letting more gasses and crud past your rings and into your crankcase.Oil running thru the internals of your engine doesn't make it black,it's exposure to contaminants of the combustion chamber.Transmission oil can look as clean after 10,000 miles as the day you put it in,and gears are constantly beating on it,why?,because it's not exposed to the combustion of the engine

Here's something to chew on being this isn't an oil thread. A gallon of gas will give off a given amount of heat (BTU'S) when burned. A motorcycle motor will get hot when burning gas. How a motor gets rid of that heat depends on whether it's air cooled or water cooled. Now I've heard alot of guys say their motor runs cooler with this oil, or that oil usually synthetic. Now remember we said gas gives off x amount of btu's? In a Harley motor of the same size stock from the factory, it will give off the same amount of heat if driven normally. Now if you use a regular type motor oil the motor temp should read in the 210-230f range after warm up, according to the moco. Now using synthetic oil, if the oil is used in the same bikes, it should have the same oil temp right? If it's lower, wouldn't that say the oil is not absorbing heat as well as the regular oil did? And if the oil is cooler, what happened to all that heat? I'd be willing to say it's still in the motor. People want to believe what they use is the best, and hate it when they are shown otherwise.,,

That's an interesting theory. One that I can't confirm or deny, but It certainly garners some consideration. I personally don't know, and don't care which is best, I'll use what yields the best results, and right now, it's Dino.

Roughly half price. Not to mention, as stated previously the syn looked totally used up at 2000 miles, yes, I know, looks don't mean ****. But it was black. I certainly believe that it was from combustion by products getting past the rings. If my Dino oil gets darker as the miles go by, then I can assume it's doing its job. The fact that it's not being consumed is noteworthy enough for me.

Not to mention it has to be shipped and pretty damn expensive.. The dino oil is thicker and will quiet things down for awhile from my experience. Keep in mind you have almost a qt of dirty oil in the sump when you change oil so unless you get it out of there it will dirty your oil in short order.
No. Normal is 6 to 8 ounces. Unless your engine is sumping.

Last I knew a quart was 32 ounces.

Since this isn't an oil thread. Fry your dyno oil up in a pan and do the same with syn and see where it goes. I personally ride my bike from Washington State to Tennessee each year round trip on syn oil (Amsoil) and not only doesn't it discolor, it doesn't use a drop in the process. Your problem isn't your "type" of oil.

Just done the Strugis rally trip north east Tenn. To Strugis on amsoil. Herd noise in my motor I never heard before but never road my bike 630 mile a day. First thing I done when I got home before I un packed the bike is got that **** out of my bike and went with a different brand and it don't matter what it is. If you like amsoil good use it I am sure it is great if not the best oil on the market but it will never be put back in my scooter again I don't care if they guarantee my motor would last 500,000 mile I still want use it.

Yes, on the frying part. But our bikes don't run quite that hot. And agreed on the part about it shouldn't matter what type of oil I use. But the fact is, my engine loses amsoil and it doesn't lose any vr1. That was the point of my original post. I can't explain it. Not going to make an attempt. But that's my experience and yrmv...
