Upgrading the TC88 -options?
#21
I thought 95" was as large as you can go with the TC88 before boring the cases and or stroking the wheels is required....
My point is the top end can be pulled off in the frame and bumped up to 95" cheap and easy in your garage on a Saturday afternoon for the do-it yourselfer

Didn't realize their were options larger than the old 3.875 big bore for TC 88's using the 4" stroke. Always thought 96" was next logical step with 3.75 bore and 4 3/8" stroke. After reading your post I researched Wiseco and found variuos CR's for a 3.937" bore and stock 4" stroke at 97 c.i.
BTW that was why I clarified DIY and assume most know their limits....

My TC88 would leave stock TC96's in the rearview mirror. My TC88 had stock displacement, stock heads, large SE Mikuni Carb, SE 203 Cams, SE air cleaner and the older (race only) SE II Performance Slip-ons (the good ones). The first time I got on my TC96 (2008) I went back to the dealer and asked for the rest of it and my Svc Mgr laughed and said "that's most people's response".

The only regret I have in my TC 88 upgrade is high compression pistons. looks good on paper but creates additional vibrations. Son is riding the 100th and me the 110th to Milwaukee in a few weeks. I rode the 100th to the cabin and back to be sure she was in good running order. the 80 MPH buzz from those 10.5:1 pistons actually shook my battery cable loose. Noticed the volt gage bouncing between 16 and 10VDC, pulled the seat and the cable had shook loose.
What ever you do to it, pay attention to compression ratio. It will addd tons of torque but you pay the price in vibration.

Ya may want to think about some 10-1 95"-98" pistons and late model heads (they flow pretty good and allow more lift) along with some good midrange cams, like Andrews tw54, for a good boost on your budget. Have it dynoed with your Power Comander and ya should be pretty pleased.
