Like has been said here a few times, the dealer checked my front rotors (12K) because I was feeling pulsing and they were .005 and .006 out. Dealer would not replace because .008 was the number needed for replacement. I replaced them when I went with the new wheels. Replacing bad HD parts is now considered NORMAL for me.

 

Heavy bike heavy loads strong calipers and hard braking warps rotors. I use my rear brake and down shift so we will see if they warp. I will not be happy if I end up with warped rotors after 1 or 2 years and 20,000 miles.

 

I have never replaced brakes or rotors on any other bike I owned. This bike just chews them up.

 

Update:

Dealer checked the runout - .07 left, .05 right. Service manager can feel it alright, but still within spec.

No warranty.

And .5 labor hours to check, woot! <sigh>

 

When I took my 10 in for the brake switch(recall) the service guy rode the bike into the back to get it taken care of. Fifteen minutes later he came out and said it was done and by the way we are going to order up new front rotors for you, you'll have to bring it back when we call you when we have them. I know it was pulsating some but I was thinking of replacing them over the winter. Had 6K miles on them. Dealer initiated the replacement....go figure.

 

The dealer that is close to my house would not replace under warranty. But the dealer that I bought my bike from did.

 

My 07 with 80K plus still has stock rotors and break pads on front no problem and rear pads been replaced couple times I thought these Brimbo supposed to superior product then previous brake system.

 

Just had mine done on a '13, less than 3k miles! WTF??? I have NEVER warped rotors on any of the 25 motorcycles I have owned, nor any of the countless cars and trucks.

Put mine up on my jack this afternoon, gave frt wheel a spin and feels like the pads are binding, I would say too much. I know they will be a bit tight and some rubbing is normal. I have done tons of tires and brakes, so yeah, I think I have a pretty good feel for too much rub. Anyone else checked their calipers? I will have to pull them off, clean them up, push the pistons in a bit and see if they loosen up any. Has to be from the calipers sticking in my case.

 

I didn't read every post...if this has been mentioned, sorry.

I'd ask the dealer if they're willing to do Warranty, if they're also willing to replace your rotors with a set of HD "floating" rotors, and let you pay whatever the up-charge (if any) is.

I think you'll be a lot happier with the floating, versus solid/stock. In my experience, I'd 'fry' the stock rotors at some point, and end up with a pulsing lever. In 15K+ miles the HD floating rotors I have now have held up without issue...

yup...took it in for the 10000 and mentioned that the rotors might be out of wack....came back and said yup, covered by warranty...zero dollars for the fix.
