Oh come on now. There is NOTHING wrong with Softails - just depends on what you are doing. For touring, yeah, they are not as ideal. Bar hopping, they are perfect. Want to stand out in a crowd, a NightTrain for sure.

My point is, Softaiils are not downgrading in some cases, just depends. And I don't recall reading what the OP wants the bike for.

That being said, I love my King waaaayyyyyy more than I did my Softail.

I owned tourers for five years starting with a 2009 RKC. My last tourer was a 11 ultra limited. I put tons of miles on tourer and I know that they're great bikes for touring. However tourers have their issues which have been well documented in this forum. You are comparing two bikes that should not be compared. They have completely different frames, engines, throttle, look, and do not share the same category. The softail carry their weight down low so their not tippy or top heavy at all. The design of the softail frame sits you deep in the bike and a well tuned softail won't shake until upwards of a 100 mph. You do not have to explain because I know for myself. Explaining things and experiencing things is the only way for someone to learn and that is why I explain my position with facts and encourage people to also experience and try things for themselves. That is the kind of info that helped me and that is what I try to contribute because facts are never bias or personal.

Thought it was gonna be my last bike....... until I rode the SG...
Had right @$20K in it.
Last year of the evo and last year of the FXSTC EVO.
It was replaced in 2000 by the Duck.

EDIT: I see you already made your decision now that I read all the posts, but here was my original response:

Don't forget why u sold the other bike. I often find myself drooling over the new FJR's and BMW's, but then I remember why I sold them. Just remind yourself why you stepped UP to a touring bike to begin with. Radio, Cruise, and a little better wind protection.

You'll regret going backwards.

Tell them even trade, if they don't take it, walk out the door and don't look back.

If one had/has a medical condition which would necessitate that one ride a lighter weight bike then so be it, at least you'd be on 2 wheels, but otherwise.... you could always ride a trike or one of them ugly can am's which probably ride better than does a trike, not that I would know.
I enjoyed my Softail. Only problem was that it was all show and good sound. Not much else to it.

I did love my 08 Train. I bought that one brand new and kinda wish I kept it. Like I said I had no issues riding that bike for distance either however I will admit the Streetglide has kinda spoiled us in that respect. I will probably end up passing as I was given a pretty crappy # and don't even feel like arguing over it. I have a better ride when it comes down to it. Maybe I was just drooling over the NT and having a quick reaction. LOL

Dude nice softail! I'm digging it. Tourers are totally awesome and you won't find me saying anything negative about them. I had two tourer and I don't regret either of them. They were both the best bikes for my situation at the time. My situation had changed and therefore what I ride now is better suited to my current situation.

Very nice. Softail Custom has always been my absolute favorite bike.

Just a small update. I was at the dealer to pick up a brake switch for my Sg today and saw the sales manager. Stepped in and asked if they still had the 06 train I been drooling over. Yes and I explained the deal presented to me last week. He pulled up the computer and threw a figure at me. Trade plus 1000.00 my way. Got me back to thinking about it again...

I might ask for 1500.00 and I keep my SE heavy breather and see if they go for that.

Now to continue to convince the O/L to go back to a softail....
