Default Possible trade into touring

Hello,
I am still new to Harleys and their history. I’ve had my ’07 sportster for 2 years now. I have an opportunity to maybe trade it locally for an ’87 FLHTP. It would be a great project and I have tons of ideas on how I would make it mine. But before I got too excited I thought I would ask what trade-offs I am giving. i.e.: fuel injection vs. carb, cold blooded, octane, etc. Now I have had a touring bike before (Yamaha Venture) so I am not concerned about the size as much as technology. Are there any known issues I should look for? Please share your thoughts as most of my Harley buddies are all at Sturgis and I need some input.

Thanks.

My concern would be trading a 2007 model for one 20 years older. Sure, there are lots of old HDs still on the road, and it shouldn't be too hard to find parts, but it's always a crapshoot to buy anything that old if you don't know the history. At the very least, have a trusted mechanic check it out before you get rid of your bike.

I wouldn't trade for one that old. BTW, I had a Venture in the past and the Harley Touring bikes in my opinion are much more well balanced.

I talked to the guy last night, he's had it ten years. barely rides it and is lookin for a smaller bike. He said it needs paint, also he's never touched the motor. I think I'll go take a look this weekend and check it out at least. Worst case is I've met another person in my life. Thanks for the input guys.

Bike needed a lot of work. Looks like I'll wait it out. Thanks again for the advice.
