93 flh brake question---HELP PLEASE
Hey guys new to this. Just wanting to pick some brains. Having an 93 FLH restored and customized. Prob is the builder suggested going with an 2002 swingarm to get the better rear caliper. He is now having problems getting brakes to work. Has anyone else done this, or have any info. I am wondering if the 93 master has an big enough bore to run 2 pistons. I have been unable to find an "big bore" one, but while serching I have seen that I can buy an 2 piston caliper to fit the stock set up. Any help would be great, would love to ride before summer is up.

No he changed swing arm to get the 2 piston rear caliper. He said it was no big deal to do and everything would work fine. Plus you can use new style bearings. He thinks the master needs a rebuild but like I said I am concerned the bore in the master may not be big enough to run the dual piston caliper. This is my first Harley and thought I would have it built. Bought it as a basket case and having someone build it 9 month's in and now brake issues. Just seeing if anyone had done this conversion and how it worked for them.

Hi Rod from the UK and welcome to HDF. Yes, I have a 1990 FLHS and installed a 2007 swingarm and rear wheel/caliper on it, a similar set-up to yours, but with a later spec narrow belt. Your master cylinder will be fine and if it is 20 years old it would be a good idea to rebuild it, for it's new life. There is no reason in my experience why they should not work together. I did mine three years ago and no problems, in fact my brake bled OK and in no time at the time I built it!
For future reference call in the Evo section, where you will find plenty of other Evo owners and a lot of help, if and when you need it.
hdbob, the reasons for swapping swingarms are several. The later ones are much stronger and give superior wheel control, also have a better brake, the older ones are prone to fracture around the axle - not good!
