Default Why is tuning a bike so difficult ?

Is it because the dealers don't invest the time and energy into training enough people into doing it? When I dropped my bike off I told them take as long as they needed on the dyno to get it right and they didn't. It seemed like they had one guy that knew how to run it and they had to pull him off other jobs to do it.

I don't know. I push a button, ride for a few miles, push another and BAM my ECU is updated.

Yep, and they don't cross-train w/other tuning devices either.

Unfortunately your $20K+ ride becomes their education platform.

Researching who is going to do your tuning prior to paying them to do it is highly recommended.

Usually it is best to find the tuner who has a great reputation and go with whatever tuner and cams they recommend depending your application as that is what works the best for them, what they are familiar with and what they will get the best results from.

Good Luck.

Rwhisen: Is it really that easy? I have the PV and my bike was recently tuned by Jamie at FuelMoto. I have not tried the auto tune because it seems too complicated. Is there an easy step by step tutorial on auto tune? The manual is way too complicated for me.

That's why I invested in a Thunder Max. I'm in control of my bikes tune. I can change exhaust, install new cams, whatever I want and I can tune my own bike. I think it will save time and money in the long run.

My tune was dead simple. Got a Powervision from Fuel Moto (with their map downloaded), along with my slip ons and air cleaner. Pop the side cover off and less than 5 minutes later the tune was done. It is the best running bike I have ever owned.

To be honest I've almost given up up on the Harley SE pro and the dealers. I'm about to the point of getting an appointment at Fuel Moto . Take a Monday off drive up on a Sunday let them do what they have to do then come home when they are done. At least I would know what I have when I leave the place .

Pretty much that easy. Plenty of vid's on FM website to instruct you how to do it. If you get a map from FM it will be pretty close to begin with.

Yes it is that easy. To put it in a nutshell it works like this:

Open a Autotune session.
Ride around for a while getting RPMs in a bunch of different ranges.
Close the tune session.
Flash the ECU.-Meaning upload it.
Enjoy.

Really only takes about 3-4 times of Autotune before you get one just right for your bike.
