Default oil level

Changed the oil yesterday on the 13 SG. Put in four quarts. Cold the level was half between add and full/hot. Rode today and checked level hot and it was in the same place. Should I add to the full/hot line? Do you generally keep your oil level full or no worry unless it gets below add?

Where it says ADD, that usually equals a quart. 1/2 way should be 1/2 Qt. If it was my bike, I would add it. Mine stays right at the full line and I have never had oil blowing issues.

Same here. Always to top of full line, and never have any oil blowing out.

Me too, I put it right to the full line and I don't worry about blow-by, Ive got it venting to the Throttle Body and its pretty minimal as far as I can tell. OP Im curious how you got 4qts in, did you scavenger your sump as well?

if your oil is between the full and add marks, then you have enough oil in there. that is the 'operating range'. i would't add more. in fact, given the amount that you put in, i would keep my eye on it and check it a couple more times. with that amount, you should be overfull.

Not sure about your touring guys, but my 13 Heritage owner's manual says to keep the oil level between the marks when checked on the jiffy stand cold.

After my last oil change, the level was closer to full the half and it puked oil out the AC until it was happy! You're ok
