It rains a lot in the area around the Dragon. But I have seen where it dissipates in an hour or so. Bring your rain suit and think of it as part of the adventure.
+1 on the no beer in Robbinsville. Closest we found was at Deals Gap, we just filled our saddlebags up on the way back in the evening. And heaven forbid your in the mood for a whiskey drink anywhere in that area, gotta find a special liquor store for that!

From what I have heard and read (I have no personal experience with the Tail-of-the-Dragon), the Tail-of-the-Dragon is not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced rider. Further, it is not what I would call a "pleasant ride"; it is a grueling ride, with traffic in both directions. If you don't pay attention, bad things can happen very quickly!

If the weather cooperates, I'll be heading that way on Saturday. First night in Asheville, second night at A Holiday Motel. Supposed to be biker friendly, covered parking and a restaurant next door. Low rental rates and the people sound friendly on the phone. Their right down the road from the Wheels Through Time Museum. Monday and possible Tuesday, I'll find a place at the end of the day....

We are planning a trip to do some of the rides around Cherahola, Tail of the dragon. I see there are biker friendly places to stay. Can anyone recommend a place to stay that lets me park the bike at the end of the day and walk to nearby restaurants, or do some of these biker friendly places have restaurants in them?

2 wheel inn = big freezer type doors between each room where you can safely store 2 baggers out of the weather each night...

Just a heads up that there is currently a lane closure on the dragon

this closure is on 129 south of deals gap.. just got back from there... so really it's not on the part of the dragon everyone enjoys so much..
in fact it was open when we were just there.. had signs up though.
also to note.. when you hit 28 from deals gap be prepared for bridge work at the foot of fontana dam..
